Minister asks harbour audits within 3 months

In line of the freak accident at the Male’ commercial harbour on Monday night after the cargo boat named Morning Viship’s crane’s wire winch crashed and killed two local workers, Transport Minister had instructed the assessment of the safety standards in harbours and their level of compliance with the set standards regarding the loading and unloading of cargo, in a memo he had sent to the Transport Authority. The minister had also instructed for the necessary actions to be taken in accordance with their assessment.  

In addition, the minister urged Transport Authority to send him a conclusive report after thorough investigations of the tragic incident of Monday night. He had also asked of them to share things that can be improved at harbours with the government.

The men who died are; Mohamed Nashid, 32, from Kudafary in Noonu atoll and Ibrahim Shareef, 36, Paris Villa, Male’. This accident is being investigated by both Transport Authority and Marine Police.
