DHL hosts ‘Partners in Trade’ event to discuss the growing importance of trade between China and the

China is the world’s leading exporter of goods in addition to being the second largest importer of global commodities and the UAE is a major trade partner of China. In the first half of 2013, imports and exports combined jumped almost 14 per cent to Dh78.6 billion, after registering close to 40 per cent year-on-year growth over 2012.

The event, which took place at The Ritz-Carlton Dubai International Financial Centre, was hosted by Frank-Uwe Ungerer, Country Manager for DHL Express and Michael Miao, Customs & Regulatory Affairs Manager DHL Express China. It was attended by more than 50 high profile DHL customers.

Frank-Uwe Ungerer, Country Manager for DHL Express in the UAE, said: “China is a global economic powerhouse with growing relations with the UAE. As a leading logistics provider it is vital for us to support these two nations as they increase trade and business, leading to greater economic prosperity. With over 30 years of experience in the region, we are ideally poised to support these economic inroads through our ‘Partners in Trade’ initiative. We believe these events help bridge gaps with both partners and customers that have a vested in China and the UAE. Our involvement in initiatives such as these stems from our commitment to help connect the world by strengthening trade relationships and global connectivity.”

With over 118 service centers, DHL covers 390 Chinese cities, thus supporting the demand for transport and logistics services given the increase in trade and economic activity. DHL’s presence in China is a key contributing factor to the growth of investment and economic development between the two nations.

Michael Miao, Customs & Regulatory Affairs Manager DHL Express China said: “Bilateral trade relations between China and the UAE have gone from strength to strength over the last decade. UAE-China relations have evolved into a complex, yet rich partnership branching out into the fields of oil and gas, energy, IT, telecom, banking, airline and tourism, hospitality, construction and many other ancillary sectors .

The Chinese economy depends on the UAE as a trade outlet for Chinese exporters in the region, as nearly 70% of Chinese exports to the UAE are re-exported to the GCC countries, Africa and Europe. This fact points to the increasing importance of the UAE as a trading hub in the region. The UAE ranks first among Arab countries in terms of its ability to attract Chinese investment . We appreciate DHL’s strategic council and support; their proactive approach by organising events is a true testament of their commitment to the region.”

DHL has been a pioneer in the Middle East logistics industry for over 30 years through its innovation, service excellence and commitment to providing customers with superior logistics solutions.
